The Warm Walnut Jack-and-Jill Bath | Attic Bathroom Remodel

A Small Attic Bathroom in Greater Boston Transformed Into a Spacious Jack-and-Jill Retreat.
This full attic bathroom renovation in Adams Corner transformed a small, confined bathroom into a spacious and functional Jack-and-Jill bathroom designed to better accommodate a growing family.

The original bathroom occupied only a portion of the attic-level space. To create a more practical layout, we incorporated an adjoining open passage area into the existing bathroom footprint, substantially increasing the usable space and creating shared access between the primary bedroom and nursery.

The project required a complete gut renovation and significant layout reconfiguration. The existing vanity was relocated to the opposite side of the room, allowing us to create a larger vanity area while improving circulation throughout the bathroom. New framing was constructed to establish the expanded layout and accommodate the unique angles created by the home's sloped attic roofline.

Rather than treating the sloped ceilings as a limitation, we incorporated them into the design. The finished bathroom features a substantial double vanity positioned comfortably beneath the attic geometry, along with custom built-in cabinetry designed specifically for the available wall space. Warm wood tones throughout the vanity and built-ins are complemented by brushed-gold fixtures and hardware, creating a modern yet inviting finish.

Behind the finished surfaces, the renovation included extensive infrastructure improvements. New and modified plumbing and electrical systems were coordinated with the redesigned layout, framing was reconstructed as required for the new configuration, and upgraded insulation was installed to improve comfort, sound control, and the performance of the attic space while meeting applicable project requirements.

The bathroom also received heated tile flooring and a heated towel warmer, adding everyday comfort to a space located directly beneath the roof.

At the bathing area, the sloped roofline became a defining architectural feature. Dark gray wall tile follows the unique shape of the ceiling above the tub, contrasted by a lighter stone-look tile floor and warm gold plumbing fixtures and trim.

From demolition and framing through plumbing, electrical, insulation, tile, custom cabinetry and final finishes, Xclusive Renos N Remodeling managed the transformation as a complete bathroom remodeling project.

The result is a bathroom that feels dramatically larger, warmer and more functional than the original space—a custom Jack-and-Jill bathroom designed around the needs of a growing family without allowing the challenging attic architecture to dictate what the space could become.
